We Are Justified By Faith Alone
Many people today say that “faith” is simply for religious people who cannot explain the unexplainable. Some will go on to say that faith is not living in the reality of everyday life. Is that true?
The Apostle Paul wrote in Rom 1:17: “The righteous will live by faith.” We are right with God only (sola) through Jesus and through faith alone.
Martin Luther, the Reformer, made that discovery about five years before he nailed his 95 statements against the heresies of the Roman Catholic Church on the door of the castle at Wittenberg while studying Romans 3:28. It was his “wow” moment!
True faith is not only a knowledge and conviction that everything God reveals in His Word is true; it is also a deep-rooted assurance, created in me by the Holy Spirit through the gospel, that, out of sheer grace earned for us by Christ, not only others, but I too, have had my sins forgiven, have been made forever right with God, and have been granted salvation. Faith is the work of God. He works it in us through the Holy Spirit. Faith is the channel of grace through which we receive God's grace. We are not saved because we are so good and just, or because God saw that we would believe, but by faith alone, which He gave to us through His Spirit.
