God Keeps His Covenant of Love

In chapter 9, we read of Israel’s sin and disobedience. The chapter is a reference to the history of Israel! This is a confession but also an admission of guilt! This is children who are talking about their parents and themselves; parents and children who did not act in trust in the Lord. They described the Lord’s mercy and His covenant to Abraham and Moses, the redemption out of Egypt. Israel behaved in the same way as a disobedient or prodigal child. Still, the Lord responded in grace. Israel confessed their sin, professed the Lord’s name, and renewed His covenant with a binding agreement. They have decided in verse 38: “Because of all this we make a firm covenant in writing; on the sealed document are the names of our princes, our Levites, and our priests.” This was their answer to the Lord’s covenant of love! In a sense, it was similar to a Public Profession of Faith.
