Chapter 13 is about the return of Nehemiah from Babylon after he had been summoned to Artaxerxes’ palace. Nehemiah had been allowed to stay in Judah for 12 years before being recalled and had accomplished the impossible with the Lord as His help. Unfortunately, it seems that after Nehemiah left, society regressed on every level. While attending to the King Babylon, Nehemiah got word that everything back in Judah was collapsing, and he returned to Judah. How did things get out of control so quickly and so seriously? The answer is still relevant today; turn away from God’s Word, and the world will take over.
