“How have you loved us?” These are the words of the people of Israel, who looked for the Lord in the wrong places. He is absent in our sorrow – so are the words of people who seek God only in adversity. You also know the question – Why Lord? Why did these things have to happen to me? What have I done to deserve this hardship? But God asks, “Where is my honour?” This is His experience. By grace, He loved the people of Israel, and by grace, they were chosen. By grace, He loved Jacob. It was all by grace!
