Count The Patience Of Lord As Salvation
In 2 Peter 3, Peter wanted to emphasize what should be known in light of the coming of Jesus and the prophecies surrounding His coming. Peter believed that the words of Scripture were significant, the words themselves, and not merely the meaning behind the words. Peter understood that Jesus gave His apostles the inspired authority to bring God’s message to the new covenant community. He understood this from Matthew 16:19, where Jesus gave the apostles authority to bind and loose, much as the authoritative rabbis of their day. Knowing this, Christians should not be surprised to find that some scoff at the idea of Jesus coming again. Peter told us that the scoffers would come. And they will not only have an intellectual problem with God and His Word. They also have an apparent moral problem, wanting to reject the Lordship of Jesus Christ over their lives and Jesus’ return.
