God’s Promises And His Word In Uncertain Times
Peter was deeply concerned in his 2nd letter. The letter indicated that it was written with a degree of urgency. His work had been completed, and the end was near. The apostle was concerned about the church’s welfare because false teachers had started proclaiming a false gospel. The heretics who were titled as “false prophets” and “false teachers” attacked the pure doctrine on two points: They were denying the Lord Jesus who redeemed them from their sins (2 Peter 2:1), and they mocked with the Second coming of Christ (2 Peter 3:4). They made up false stories and brought the truth to shame. They promised the believers freedom, but they were themselves slaves of depravity. Peter’s advice is to hold on to God’s Word.
