The author of Ecclesiastes commences with quite a bleak picture of life and its purpose - Vanity of Vanities - All is Vanity!! - but it's not all as it at first may seem. When it's all said it done he is directed  to declare "The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man." Ch12:v13
