The Almighty God Executes His Covenant Plan
Elijah, the prophet of the Lord, is a man just like us. In the previous section, in chapter 18, Elijah was standing in courageous faith in God, as the true God against Ahab and the Baal prophets on Mount Carmel. He prayed to God as the only God who has power over all things: nature, drought, and rain and to God who even set alight wet wood from heaven. Fearlessly, he instructed to kill the Priests of Baal. As an instrument, of God he courageously acted in dependence on the covenant. Now he fled, discouraged and in fear of his life. He is afraid that Queen Jezebel will kill him because she threatens to do so.
