The Two Natures In The One Person Of Christ
How we receive the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper is dependent upon our view on the relationship between the two natures of Christ. Guido de Bres saw it as his duty to explain to the congregation what God had revealed concerning this: “these two natures are so united together in one person that they are not even separated by His death.” The Lord’s Supper is not only a sign, it is also a seal. It offers us the assurance of faith. Through the Lord’s Supper, Christ assures us that we are united through His body and blood, that we have communion, or participation, with Him. And that is why we confess that Christ is present in the bread and wine through His Spirit.
